On Monday 23rd April 2018, ENS took part in the epic ‘Beat the Seats’ challenge along with teams from Arthur J Gallagher, and our partners, South East and Central Essex Mind.
This event was created to help raise money and awareness in the local community about the fantastic mental health work that South East and Central Essex Mind continue to do in Essex, in memory of Southend hero, Ray Davy.
In order to ‘beat the seats’, each of the teams were faced with a whopping challenge of sitting on all 12,000 of Southend United Football Club’s seats in just 8 hours! The ENS team was made up of 18 participants, each facing a staggering 800 seats each! With such a monumental task ahead of the team before they started, it took countless lunch-time training sessions to get in shape for the big day!
On the day, we were sent in 3 teams of 6 to ensure we could keep our day-to-day operations running while we participated.
Luckily, the weather was ideal, as it was not too hot or too cold, remaining pleasant throughout the day. There were refreshments, snacks and music to keep everyone squatting, and
we were even treated to a visit from Southend United’s very own mascot, Sammy the shrimp!
The training definitely paid off, as we’re proud to say that ENS managed to ‘beat the seats’, clocking in some extremely quick times throughout the course of the day:
As quick as ENS were, we couldn’t keep up with Arthur J Gallagher’s pace, as they ended up completing their 12,000 seat quota faster than anyone else!
Although the event was great fun for all involved, ‘Beat the Seats’ was all about raising awareness of positive mental health and how staying active can help promote good mental and physical well-being. You can still support South East and Central Essex Mind’s phenomenal work by donating to the cause here. They are accepting donations up until May 30th, so please help them reach their £2,500 fundraising target today!
